Scope & Safe (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates scopeandsafe.com (the “Site”). We publish independent reviews, buying guides, and how-to articles on firearm optics and secure storage. We do not sell products directly. When you buy something after following one of our links, the transaction happens on the merchant’s own site under their own terms and privacy policy.

This Privacy Policy describes what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

We keep data collection deliberately narrow because we don’t run checkouts, accounts, or user content.

1. Information you give us voluntarily

  • Contact form / email: If you write to us at info@scopeandsafe.com or through our contact form, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it to reply and nothing else.

2. Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, our hosting and analytics providers automatically collect standard web request metadata:

  • IP address, country, approximate region
  • Browser type and version, operating system, device type
  • Pages visited, referring URL, time on page, links clicked
  • Timestamps and session identifiers

This is used to understand aggregate traffic patterns, diagnose technical issues, and improve the Site. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors from this data.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

  • Essential — small browser state required for the Site to function (e.g., theme, dismissed banners). No analytics value.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics 4 (G-47BEMB1ZYQ) for aggregate traffic reporting.
  • Affiliate attribution — when you click an outbound product link, the destination merchant’s site may set its own cookies so any resulting purchase is credited back to the referrer. Those cookies are set on the merchant’s domain, not ours; we don’t read them and their own privacy policies apply.

How We Use Information

  • Respond to questions or press inquiries you send us
  • Measure aggregate traffic and diagnose technical issues
  • Detect abuse (scraping, credential-stuffing, bot traffic) and protect the Site
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell personal information, rent mailing lists, or share your email for marketing purposes.

Who We Share Information With

We share the limited data above only with service providers that help us run the Site, each bound by their own agreements and privacy policies:

  • Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, DDoS protection, web analytics
  • Google — Google Analytics 4 for aggregate traffic reporting
  • Email provider — if you email us, your message is stored by our mail provider

We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request (subpoena, court order, etc.).

Affiliate Disclosure

Scope & Safe participates in third-party affiliate and partner programs. If you click a product link on this Site and complete a qualifying purchase with a participating retailer or manufacturer, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This has no influence on our editorial opinions — we review products on merit, rank them against non-affiliated alternatives, and call out weaknesses wherever they exist. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access — ask what information we hold about you
  • Delete — ask us to delete information associated with you
  • Opt out of analytics — use your browser’s privacy settings or opt out of Google Analytics site-wide
  • Opt out of “sale/share” (California residents) — we don’t sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, but if that ever changes you’ll be able to opt out here

Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. Content on the Site concerns firearm accessories and storage and is generally intended for adults.

Data Retention

  • Contact emails: kept only as long as needed to resolve the conversation, generally under 12 months
  • Analytics data: retained by Google Analytics per their default settings (14 months)
  • Server logs: 30 days rolling, then discarded

International Transfers

Our hosting, analytics, and email providers are US-based. If you access the Site from outside the US, your data is processed in the US under standard contractual clauses where applicable.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the homepage or via a banner.
